OMG!!! I have to go to this!!!!!!!!!!
I can't wait! How many Chaotic Geeks can we get there and how many will be in costume?!?!?!

DC Comics 75th Anniversary Superhero World Record Attempt
World record attempt on Saturday 29th May, 2010 at Federation Square.
Be part of the DC Comics Guinness World Record attempt for the most number of people in super hero costumes in one location!
Federation Square will become a hive of activity as children dress in their favourite iconic characters such as Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the release of the first DC Comic.
This family friendly event will have plenty of activities and entertainment to keep families amused with roving Super Hero characters to be photographed with and live show performance, live crosses with reporters from Kids’ WB on Channel Nine, and the chance to win an array of prizes.
Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Comics, will be hosting the world record attempt as one of the major highlights in Australia this year to celebrate the 75th anniversary of DC Comics, which began publishing in 1935.
“The event is a great way to highlight the 75th anniversary of DC Comics and get the community involved as people of all ages love to dress up as their favorite heroes,” said Preston Kevin Lewis, the Australia and New Zealand managing director of Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “There will be plenty to keep families amused with roving DC Superhero characters with whom to be photographed, as well as the chance to appear on television and the chance to be part of a world record.”
The two-hour event will include a live 20-minute Justice League stage show involving Batman, Wonder Woman and other great DC Comics heroes and villains who will be available for photo opportunities following the show.
To support the DC Comics activity, Warner Bros. Consumer Products also has a host of product opportunities across all categories, including toys, costumes, apparel and more. Lewis added, “This year’s celebration of DC Comics’ 75th anniversary is a prime time for licensees to get involved with activities happening across key retailers.”
Melbourne Aquarium is also offering free entry on the day for every child aged 3 to 15, with the event wristband, accompanied by a paying adult.
Date: 29 May 2010 - 29 May 2010
Time: Registration from 9am. (event concludes 11.30am)
Location: Federation Square, Flinders Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Ages: All Ages

... and for all of you not living in Victoria, and you have a munchkin (that you're obviously rasing as a fellow geek), then you can get them to enter this competition and possibly win a trip down for the event!

Re: DC Comics 75th anniversary super hero world record attempt
I believe it was set at 1,016 on August 29th 2009, but there may have been a more recent attempt that I am unaware of.
The articles I've read had the numbers jump from 103 in April 2009, to 106 in June 2009, to the massive 1,016 in August 2009!

Yeah, we have to go to this!
I'll get my eldest into her Wonder Woman outfit (she's 10).
But I want photo photo taken with the Justice League.
I wonder what Lantern they will have there?

Re: DC Comics 75th anniversary super hero world record attempt
We should definitely have a rallypoint... but maybe we could call it a slightly public Secret Headquarters

Not knowing what the numbers will end up being (although I'm hoping on absolutely massive) the normal meet-up points for Fed Square are under the big screen, on the steps, at the info building, or at the Time Out Cafe.
Of course if the numbers are huge then it may be hard to meet-up anywhere other than the steps or the info building.
Any preferences guys?
Most of you have my number already, but if you don't just pm me and I'll give it to you so that we can all find each other in the crowd

So is everyone still geared up for this?
SuperWannabe, did you manage to get your costume fixed?
Fingers crossed for your son in Friday's competition draw, Grenge!
Does everyone want to meet at the info building (on the side facing towards the big screen)?

Re: DC Comics 75th anniversary super hero world record attempt
Wow this looks like a lot of fun! Is it limited to DC heroes? Just out of curiosity not that I have a wardrobe of costumes. As a matter of fact I don't have any
My son's have a Batman and an Ironman costume. Though I think my elder son has outgrown his by now.
Maybe some Purple undies and green dye? Hehe I would look more like the Blob
How about some nifty costume ideas? Things that can be put together relatively easily.
I am going through all the heroes in my memory thinking of who I could pull off >.<
Will run this past the wife for sure.
Mat, do you think you will make the pilgrimage?

Re: DC Comics 75th anniversary super hero world record attempt
Hmm, reading up it does not say specifically DC Heroes. Though maybe someone else knows more than I on this.
Another silly question, What about super villains? I know it's a superhero record attempt but just thought I would ask.
I think I would be susceptible to Poison Ivy otherwise

Re: DC Comics 75th anniversary super hero world record attempt
Well there is always something like The Preacher which shouldn't be too hard to whip up
just getting the red contact lenses for when he unleases "the word of god". I mean he does save the world from evil.

or perhaps The Crow, I know it's old school goth but If I was going to get all in character it would have to be Eric Draven (possibly an anti-hero but still a hero like Kick-Ass... ooo there's another idea... Kick-Ass, an excuse to don a Green wetsuit... but I digress...

Re: DC Comics 75th anniversary super hero world record attempt
Hi again to everyone who showed up to the event today
*waves*
I had an absolutely brilliant time
I wore my Nightwing t-shirt and got to pose for a photo with Nightwing at the event
I took some piccies and (along with the Iron Man 2 & FCBD event piccies) I'll have to post some to share the day with you guys!
Wait until you see the photos of the 25 day old Superman & the 9 day old Batman!
Yay for the newest generation of Geeks
Ohhh... right! For those that didn't attend you're probably wondering how the attempt went...?
Melbourne smashed the previous record and set the new record at 1,245 Superheroes in a single place!
w00t!
