International Space Station sighting tonight (26/09/2010)
Hi All,
I know I've been slack lately, but hopefully this makes up for it a little.
The ISS is supposed to be very visible tonight over Australia, from just after 19:00. For Melbourne people, here are the details:
Heavens Above
Anybody else, just play with the location details on the Heavens Above website.
We're going to be out there (and back inside in time to watch Ninja Warriors on SBS2
)

Just saw the ISS go past the SE horizon. Very cool!
Never managed to catch something like that before. Any time there's something important to see, we got heaps of cloud cover.
That thing was MOVING! Didn't expect it to be that fast.
It's going to be back at 20:47 for about 30 seconds, so I may head outside again for another look

This was a buzz! It was soooo cool to watch it zoom across the sky!
Went out for both viewings but the first was much cooler than the second.
Longer to watch the first time, so more fun

I missed this (didn't see the post until too late). I can understand your feelings. We made a point of staying up to odd hours way back when Halley's Comet made its last pass when I was in my teens. I still get a buzz in the rare times I find myself out in the middle of nowhere on a clear night... And find myself surprised yet again by how much fo the sky we don't see because of city light pollution.

Thanks for the info.
I missed this too..drat!
We used to live in the country and it was amazing how often we'd see satellites when we watched the sky for a while.
I love seeing a depth that you don't see in the city/town. I would feel alternatively insignificant and powerful. Knowing that I'm a part of this wonderful thing we call a Universe is mind-expanding ...without artificial help!
