Skyline

I've posted a piece on the upcoming film Skyline on the main page of Chaotic Geek.
It looks like it's going to be a great flick & I do love a good alien invasion story!
You know from the taglines of the film that it's not going to be about friendly aliens!!!
ON AUGUST 20, 2009, NASA SENT A MESSAGE INTO SPACE
IN AN EFFORT TO CONTACT EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE
UNFORTUNATELY THEY ANSWERED
and
OUR FIRST ENCOUNTER
OUR LAST STAND
DON'T LOOK UP

The synopsis...
In the city of Los Angeles, after a late night party, a group of friends are awoken in the dead of the night by an eerie light beaming through the window. Like moths to a flame, the light source is drawing people outside before they suddenly vanish into the air. They soon discover an other-worldly force is swallowing the entire human population off the face of the earth. Now our band of survivors must fight for their lives as the world unravels around them.

I'm so impressed with what I've seen so far (as those that were at the last Austrek meeting would know from my pushing for the trailer to be played) and I'm so stunned that it's only taken them a year from deciding to make the film to putting it on cinema screens around the world!
Just shows what can be done when everyone is on the ball and wanting to make a film, rather than dealing with the bureaucracy that is normally involved in the process.
Skyline open in Australia on November 11th, in the UK & US on November 12th, and in NZ on December 2nd.
Woohoo! Not long to wait at all
Who's going with me?!?

Review
With a plot that has a few holes, and leaves you asking more questions than it answers. Hopscotch’s latest advances in special effects are shown in all their glory in its lasts film, Skyline.
The opening scenes leaves you awe struck with no explanations, grabbing your attention and leaving you wanting more. My senses tingling I watched with anticipation wanting to find out want was happening, but that information was a long time coming.
Cleverly you are taken through the events of a supposed global invasion from the prospective of only seven people. Jarrod (Eric Balfour) and his girl friend, Elaine (Scottie Thompson) arrive in L.A. to celebrate Terry's (Donald Faison) birthday, Jarrod’s long time friend. After a night of celebrations an early morning blinding light introduces the rest of the movie’s amazing story line. Blinding lights take control of people’s minds and force them to give themselves over. Jarrod is nearly taken accept for an intervention by Terry. With sunlight in the morning we see the true glory of the special effects that this film showcases. Despite looking, I could not see any seams, strings or CGI lines. Alien spacecraft of varying types, configurations and sizes grace the screen with the sole purpose of collecting people, all being witnessed by our cast.
An escape attempt see’s our hero’s numbers dwindle as well as a small amount of information as to the alien’s intent with the human race.
The classic fight back by the human race is watched by our hero’s from the penthouse apartment, along with the classic alien fight back.
With an outlandish ending that is obviously a opening for a sequel, you are left wondering, “WHAT?” What is left to come? And, What was that?
If you are into special effects, and love the idea of being in suspense the whole way through a movie, Skyline is for you.
With its few let downs, I can only give it 2 out of 5.
