Tron Legacy

Post by xombiekitty on Thu Feb 25, 2010 9:56 am

Tron Legacy, in the build up to being released later this year, has been utilising some interesting promotional techniques.
The website Flynn Lives has been around for a while, giving fans an update to what's happened in the years between Tron and now.
Flynn's Arcade was opened up to allow fans the chance to mingle, and many news articles appeared on the website regarding the missing hero.
Then came the countdown. A clock of flashing bits counting down, to the unknown, in binary on the Zero Hour section of the website.
When the countdown ended, a new promotional twist started!

Field Operatives were required, in twenty-seven locations around the world, to meet with contacts in Flynn Lives tops and collect codes.
Fans taking place were given a phone from the first contact, to call and speak with a second contact, who directed them to the drop location.
Along with the codes these packages included Tron wallets holding three original Tron design cards, two arcade tokens, and paper flyers for Flynn Lives and Encom.

With the collected codes entered by fans around the world, a new site opened up called Pit Cell.
In less than 24 hours a simultaneous release of tickets to exclusive events in New York, Los Angeles, London, Toronto, and Sydney will occur, which will allow lucky ticket holders the chance to go screenings at IMAX in their location.
With another ten months until the release of the film, my guess is that this will involve something along the lines of a ten minute footage reveal.

Tron Legacy is out in December 2010 and, while the end of the year is still a long time away from now, with promotional work like this the excitement will just keep building... although I personally think the excitement would have been huge even without all of these fun fan events

So am I excited?
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!

Excited? Ha! I'm actually bouncing with glee!!!
We're on our way back to Melbourne after the Sydney IMAX screening of the new 3D Tron Legacy trailer!

OMG!!!! Can somebody please speed up time so that it's December already?!?
They have done an awesome job with the promotion of this film and I'm so hyped right now that I might just explode, lol Very Happy

The 3D was done so well that I enjoyed watching the footage twice!
I've been really over the wave of 3D movies but this footage just got me excited instead <3

We'll put a review up later discussing the new scenes but I just couldn't wait to share my thrill of seeing new footage from Tron Legacy!!!

We didn’t have quite as long a drive as you – coming from Canberra for the event – but I am just as excited as you!

I have to admit that I am not as hyped by 3D as some people are. It seems that everything coming out lately is, well, 3D. So when I heard that Legacy was going to be in 3D, I wasn’t drawn by its ‘uniqueness’ on that stand. But I loved Tron and have the best memories of the movie when it first came out (and after). And the viral marketing for the new movie is so inventive (and has drawn me in hook, line and sinker).

And so when I found that I had accessed a ticket for Sydney, I bounced up and down for several hours. I am sure that my co-workers think that I have fully lost my mind! :0)

The event offered just a taste of what is to come…and based just on this brief glimpse, I can’t wait! I can’t get over how familiar the environment was, just cleaner/clearer (and more high tech).

Bring on December – or at least, more Canberra-accessible Flynn Lives events!

Flynn Lives!!!!

So glad you joined the forums Caribou!
I love how excited you are because it means I have another person to get all WOOHOOO with about Tron Legacy, lol

I want to see the trailer again!
I was incredibly impressed with the quality of the footage we saw!
Since it's suppose to be released with Alice In Wonderland I'm just wishing for it to start in cinemas so I can watch the Tron Legacy awesomeness again before the movie

I'm really enjoying the ARG events too and anyone who isn't a part of it yet should read this article and listen to the latest podcast for more information!

Hey, I was happy to find a place to 'fit in' with my geekiness when it comes to all things Disney and Tron in spacific!

My house has been all abuzz with Alice in Wonderland viewing plans since the Fawn (11 years old) found out that Mr Depp was playing the Mad Hatter. When we came home with the news that the Tron Legacy trailer would play with it, she flipped out. Johnny and Tron? Is there anything better?

And yes, the whole Flynn Lives mythos is just so engaging to my family and me. I have had so much fun today explaing why I was so tired at work...and introducing some of my retired volunteers to the wonder of the Flynn Lives website! hee hee... 4 more converts...

Yay for more converts

Although we already reviewed and discussed the trailer pretty much scene by scene on the podcast, since the 3D trailer isn't out yet, and it was a limited fan screening, I thought I would post the audio transcription here for anyone interested

The trailer starts off in the real world with Alan Bradley talking to Kevin Flynn's son, Sam...

Alan: “I promised you that if I ever got any information about your dad, that I’d tell you first, right? I was paged last night; it came from your dad’s office at the arcade.”

Sam: “So?”

Alan: “So?! That number’s been disconnected for twenty years! Two nights before he disappeared he came to my house. He said he was about to change everything... science, medicine, religion. He wouldn’t have left that Sam; He wouldn’t have left you.”

Sam: “You know, you’re acting like I’m going to find him sitting there working... ‘Hey kiddo... lost track of time.’”

Alan: “Wouldn’t that be something”

After this the trailer shows Sam heading to Flynn's Arcade.

We see a little more real world footage before we hit the digital world with the sight of a recognizer (OMGWTFBBQPOLARBEAR!!! It's AWESOMESAURUS in 3D). We get a bunch of footage of the digital world and before the trailer ends we get some more dialogue but no footage to go with it...

Sam: “Dad?”

Flynn: “Sam?”

Sam: “Long time.”

Flynn: “You have no idea.”

The Tron Legacy trailer that was a part of the Pit Cell event is now online.
It isn't in 3D but, just the same, you can get a feel for how cool this is shaping up to be!
I still get excited every time I watch it and I've lost count of how many times that actually is now

It's on the Arcade Aid website under Contact.
The number is (314) 925 2642

The recording you get when you call is that Zack can't take you're call right now because he's off trying to beat his highscore on Space Paranoids, so you need to leave a message

Got to see the new trailer (the 2D version) on the big screen again today!
At Trio-Con today, before the event was open, ZenBubble was testing equipment and he put the tailer up for the staff to watch!
It was sooooo awesome and everytime I see it I just get more and more excited

Apparently it was played a couple of other times during the day to the captive geeks, lol, and it went over a treat
Looking forward to watching Legacy in fan-filled cinemas come December

Same here. 1st time for that trailer for myself as well. It was awesome.

I can tell you now. There WILL be costumers making costumes for conventions for this one. Be pretty easy to do with reflective stripping (get it from Autobarn or Supercheap Autoparts etc) and bodysuits, painted cycle helmets etc.

No to mention Frizbee's making a comeback *prediction only

Looks like the next part of the arg is up.
Looks like they are now trying to track down the whereabouts of Sam Flynn

I'm a bit behind on the ARG (seems to be familiar words for most things atm lol) but I just got a badge for 99 shots on Space Paranoids, and then another badge for 999!
I freaked a bit at the 999 because it didn't give me a badge but was thankfully told loggin out and then back in again fixes it... which it did!
You can earn the badges here: http://www.encominternational.com/spaceparanoidsonline
It has a countdown on, counting down to just over a week away!

Going off to work on the Sam Flynn ARG stuff now Smile
